Assassin Creed has been a household name for a while now. Assassin Creed Red is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec and it will be their new installment of open world new-gen Assassin Creed. The Assassin Creed is expected to roll around march 2025. The game will revolve around open-world action-adventure will be taking us back to feudal Japan.
A Land Steeped in History: Feudal Japan Beckons
Feudal Japan is always embraced with strong narrative and action. The story will be enriched with samurais, katanas and immaculate armor. The period is filled with rich lore and chaotic conflict. This will definitely give more rooms for actions in your Assassin Creed Red.
Ubisoft has an amazing history of recreating historical eras. Firstly, they recreated the Egyptian lore in origins meticulously. Similarly, Ubisoft gave us Odyssey and Valhalla each showcasing various lore and myths. Exploring Feudal Japan will be an exciting, players can explore the rich Japanese history and culture.
According to Marc-Alexis Cote who has been one of the most competent creative directors of Ubisoft described codename Red as a premium title. Moreover, he also claimed that “the future of our open-world RPG games on Assassin’s Creed.”
Dual Protagonists: A Story Unfolding from Two Perspectives?
A leaked menu took over the gaming community that suggested a possibility of dual protagonists in Assassin Creed Red. This takes us back to the era of Assassin Creed Syndicate. Ubisoft started this trend in Syndicate and then they picked it up again from Odyssey.
The character players will be controlling maybe a shinobi with an established clan. The shinobi maybe facing conflict of interests with rival faction which leads him to Hidden Ones. According to the leaks players can choose between a Shinobi or a Samurai. However, it is unclear if we can switch the character mid game. Moreover, in the trailer we can see a female Samurai character. According to Insider Gaming they said:
“The as-yet unseen Shinobi is, understood to be an African refugee, who learned the way of the Creed.”
The Connection to Assassin’s Creed Infinity: Standalone or Interwoven?
Ubisoft sparked many questions after announcing Assassin’s Creed Infinity. The Infinity is still under the veil so the information about it is quite scarce. So, it is safe to say that Red will be the current standalone. Players are expecting to have some connection with the Infinity or some easter eggs.
However, it is too early to tell if there will be some sort of DLC to bridge the gap between Red and Infinity. Ubisoft is quite creative when it comes to introducing various stories one after another. Back in the days they would roll out an Assassin’s Creed game each year.
A Glimpse into Potential Gameplay Mechanics
Players are expecting Ubisoft will bring back the authentic parkour mechanics. In Feudal Japan parkour skills should be quite up there because of tall temples. Moreover, grappling hooks will give us the feel of games like Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima. Traversing throughout the castle complexes will require these skills.
As for combat hopefully it would be more enriched and improvised version of Ghost of Tsushima. Hopefully, it will emphasis on Shinobi tactics where it focuses on stealth and quick death. Of course, counter attack and parries still need to be mastered to be up there in your combat game. Hopefully, they add better feature for throwing knives and darts. It would be nice to see some staple feudal Japan weapons.
Of course, players can upgrade their armor and weapons as it will allow them to level up to the hard enemies. Moreover, there will also be potential skill tree which allows the players to specialize various Shinobi skills like stealth, silent movement or mastering ranged weapons.
Conclusion
The Assassin’s Creed Red will be another amazing installment in the open-world series of Assassin’s Creed. Hopefully, it will feature a strong narrative with compelling combat. Moreover, this game can be a new a entry point for new gen gamers to get introduced to Assassin’s Creed franchise.
