Asus has stated that its 2024 ROG lineup will be unveiled on January 8 at CES in Las Vegas. The ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro are part of the forthcoming series.

Design And Display:

However, the forthcoming Phone 8 series may offer a significant design difference. A redesigned rear design, confirmed by an official teaser, features a pentagon-shaped camera island with three camera sensors and an LED flash.

Furthermore, Windows Report believes that the Phone 8 and 8 Pro will feature a punch hole cutout on the display for the first time. The panel’s bezels will also be substantially thinner than in prior versions.

The display could be the biggest attraction of the upcoming ROG Phone 8 series. Both phones are said to have a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 165Hz. The screens might be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and have a peak brightness of up to 2,500 nits.

Performance:

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, combined with 16GB of RAM, powers both the ROG Phone 7 and Phone 7 Ultimate. While this is a remarkable mix, Asus may go much further with their next gaming phone. The new ROG Phone 8 is believed to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and finest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which has a CPU that is up to 30% quicker, a GPU that is up to 20% faster, and a Neural Engine that is up to 98% faster.

An ROG Phone 8 series device was recently discovered on Geekbench, with a score of 7,098 on the multi-core test. In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 scores 5693 points.

In other news, the ROG Phone 8 is said to include 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, while the Phone 8 Pro could have up to 24GB RAM, as seen on the OnePlus 12. Both gaming phones may support UFS 4.0 storage, with the Pro model supporting up to 1TB of onboard storage.

Camera:

Asus is also likely to make much-needed adjustments to the camera department. The back camera setup is believed to have a 50MP main camera (Sony IMX890), a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a revolutionary 32MP telephoto module with 3x optical zoom.

Battery And Charging:

ROG Phone 8 is rumored to include a large battery that will allow for longer gaming sessions. According to Windows Report, the next phones may not have the same battery capacity as the Phone 7, which has a massive 6,000mAh battery. Instead, the Phone 8 range may use a 5,500mAh battery.

The charging speed, on the other hand, is projected to remain constant. The ROG Phone 7 charges at 65W, and a recent certification indicates that the Phone 8 will charge at the same rate. The future gaming phones will most likely run Android 14 with the ROG UI.

Conclusion:

Asus’ ROG Phone 8 might be dropping soon and could be a real beast of a gaming phone with dedicated features for hardcore players. But right now, there’s no official confirmation from the brand regarding the specs, so we’ll have to wait and see what upgrades are in store for us.
