The BenQ HT2060 is a home projector with a number of features and qualities that allow owning an actual home theater experience without having to spend a lot of money. It was only introduced in the market in 2020, and it has gained a lot of followers within the home theater market due to its good picture quality at an affordable price. Before we start our BenQ HT2060 review let us explore the main indicators and characteristics of the HT2060 as a 1080p projector.

Picture Quality

That will always be the picture quality and in a budget projector the BenQ HT2060 is reasonably satisfactory. This uses a Texas Instrument 1080p DLP for image multiplication MHL, it displays with a resolution of 1920×1080; this is an ideal HD resolution for home theatre projectors at this price. The high resolution and good contrast ratio of 15,000:1 copies of colors and shadows with more than enough depth and saturation on screens up to 200 inches diagonals.

Blacks could be deeper but even the scenes heavily shaded or in deeper blacks retain good level of details owing to high native contrast of the panel. It is also moderately bright at 2,200 ANSI lumens making it suitable for positioning in rooms with little to some ambient lighting condition. It will not perform very well in brightly lit living room spaces but when matched with a truly dark home theater environment the HT2060 can deliver an excellent cinematic image.

It also supports Rec. 709 HD color accuracy for accurate color reproduction of movies as well as television programmes. Further, the lenses of this projector are fully configurable using a 1.3x zoom that makes them easily placeable depending on room size and shape. All in all, the picture quality is quite good for the price range and even though it is not as good as in 4K televisions. However for standard 1080p Full HD content the picture quality is brilliant with Punchy colours, good contrast and reasonable brightness.

Features & Connectivity

Nonetheless, the HT2060 comes equipped with a stock of tested features for the budget price point, beginning with connectivity options. Extra input options are 2 HDMI ports, While one of them support HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 to cope with a new 4K/HDR media input devices. The equipment also has a USB port with which you can power media streaming devices as well as VGA input and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Assembly is simple with vertical and horizontal keystone correction of up to +/- 40 degrees, 1.3x zoom and focus functions are available with the versatile adjustable lens. Integrated into the projector are 10W speakers for sound but as most home theater enthusiasts would be expected to, they’ll use the audio connections to hook up the projector to their favorite sound system.

BenQ also incorporates its useful CinematicColor technology, which consists of settings depending on the environment where the equipment is placed. There are modes such a Dark Cinema, Bright Cinema and User mode where you can alter the settings to your own preference – very useful if you have perfect view. And the 3D, ISF modes, sport/gaming modes and similar optimized for the various mixed media uses – are all precisely adjusted by the HT2020.

Design & Build Quality

In regard to the design and construction, the HT2060 has all the same features of a solid chassis and minimalist design that are usual to most of the BenQ’s home theater projectors. It is a compact machine at 315 x 281 x 151mm and weighing a manageable 2.7kg, therefore movability is never an issue. The rectangular white housing sheds could look rather utilitarian at first glance but the design fits seamlessly into any room.

The build quality is also decent, thanks to solid and high-quality plastics that have been well assembled. The lenses, hinges and the other parts that are most likely to afford motion are quite responsive to the product’s class. Such details as the manual lens cap and the compartment for the cable add up to the concept of the product. Water resistance is not a feature of the projector, but the externally exhausting vent is essential to combating dust within it. Altogether there are no great design differences from a strictly utilitarian standpoint, typical for this kind of a budget home theater product; however the HT2060 feels rather well built where it really matters.

Lamp Life & Noise

Some of the essential considerations that define user experience of any projector are the lamp and the level of noise it outputs. When the lamp is to be operated in the Economic LampSave mode, BenQ has given the 220W mercury lamp a rating of 4000 hours till the lamp attains a brightness level of 50%. This is equivalent to about five years of occasional movie nights for many households before one has to retire the $99 lamp module. For daily television viewing it is also possible to estimate roughly 3 years of its service life.

Aggressively, the noise issue of BenQ’s proprietary 2nd generation LED light source cooling system is also demonstrated fantastic quietness of the fan. It produces just 27dB in Eco mode that requires one to put their ear to a speaker for one to hear it. The last feature is a fan that operates at 31dB even at the maximum brightness, which is suitable for home theater usage. There is also a strong backward flow to maintain a cool surface temperature of the HT2060 even after hours of use.

Bottom Line

All in all, the BenQ HT2060 is a powerful home theater projector that costs less than $1000 and can easily deliver a 100+ inches image with a 1080p resolution and good picture quality. It is accurate in colors, contrasts, and sharpness that is suitable for both movies and other mixed media. Huge connectivity choices, versatile zoom and focus, special observation modes, and simple calibration add their part in enhancing the user-friendly feature set.

Bravo also in quality and design given the price range. It lasts long enough and noise has been observed to be way much more than what one would expect from a budget friendly projector. When lighting conditions can be managed, the bright 2,200 lumen picture looks good in a true home theater setting. With all that you get at this price, the HT2060 should easily make it on any short list of buyers looking for big screen enjoyment on the cheap.
