Bloodrush: Undying Wish, A Fastpaced Action Roguelike

News

Bloodrush: Undying Wish is the latest from developer Lightmancer Studios who are based in Brazil. It is a newly formed studio and the game is heavily inspired by Hyperlight Drifter, Hades and Ultrakill. It is set to be released sometime this year as a release date hasn’t been announced and will be available on PC only.

Fluid Combat

As per the trailers on Steam and Youtube it is clear the developers wanted to focus on fast-paced smooth combat. As The Stranger,  we will be able to string together as many combos as we see fit.

It seems we will have access to a melee sword and a gun, just like in Hades in each encounter there will be various enemies spread across each room and it’s up to us to clear the room as quickly and efficiently as possible.

To facilitate this fast movement, we have the ability to grapple across the room by hooking on to distant enemies or points and immediately get back into chaining our combos together again. The mechanic of getting health back on hit is also present which incentivizes the player to constantly keep attacking enemies to regain any lost health.

The Cult Of Eternity

It is our job as the player to stop this cult that is responsible for imprisoning Death, we will have to face a variety of enemies from skeleton monsters to ghosts and vampire-like bosses. Not a whole lot is known of the game’s plot.

What is known is that we go into Death’s domain consisting of 8 combat arenas each consisting of different mechanics and challenges. As we go through these areas we will slowly uncover what happened to Death and what the plans are of her captors.

This is sort of similar to how it was in games like Hades where as we complete each run we slowly uncover the story more and more along with unlocking upgrades or items that subsequently introduce new gameplay challenges.

The Early Access System

This game is already in early access and a playable demo is available now, the demo includes  two bosses, six arenas, four weapons, eight combos and 20 upgrades. The developers have stated that they plan to progressively add content in the future.

This is a system that is being adopted by many indie studios new and old and has proven effective for many reasons mainly because of the quick feedback that the community gives either through steam or the developer’s discord.

This form of development also allows the creators to catch bugs early and even test out systems which cannot be done in house or would prove to be sufficient in-house. The rapid feedback lets the developers know what areas of the focus on and what areas of the game are functionally complete.

Conclusion

Bloodrush: Undying Wish is already proving to be a great indie title due to its interesting and fluid combat style. The beautiful pastel color and pixel art style present a creative and original gothic environment that matches the theme of the story they are presenting concerning Death.

They have already added multiple new mechanics like a style system that awards creative play by combining slashes from our swords and shots from our revolver kind of like how it is in games like Devil May Cry to keep up the style meter, a buffing system that allows players to get passive buffs, executions on enemies which instantly recover lost health and many more.

The game is promising to deliver peak hack’n’slash combat featuring multiple different weapons, interesting systems and an interesting story.Players can access the latest early access demo from steam with the latest update from March 25th and are encouraged to provide their feedback through steam or their discord. This game is sure to impress any fans of the roguelike genre and more than deserves a spot in their library.
