Imagine waking up and all you see is darkness because some insects decided to steal your eyes. This unsettling scenario is plot for the soon-to-be released indie game. The game instantly throws you into a chaotic bug infested world.

Ants Took My Eyeballs is developed by Bosmic Forge which is a roguelike platformer game. It is expected to be released on 19th April 2024. The main objective of the game is to destroy hostile insects and other creatures with various weapons. You can use the exceptional mobility to run, dash and jump to avoid enemies. This your usual platforming roguelike game but the visual strongly reminds you of Terraria.

A Quest for the Missing Marble

The game starts off with the nameless protagonist missing one of his eyeballs. The protagonist is left with a hollow sockets and endless horror. The main character’s gut feeling leads to a suspicious hunch. There is a chaotic industrious anthill nearby the protagonist.

“Explore procedurally generated levels of the mysterious ant hill, with various diverse biomes with their own unique enemies, traps and loot.”

You step in the nameless character’s shoes and set yourself for a journey. The character is fueled by rage, determination and panic. He needs to explore the very heart of the anthill and reclaim his ultimate treasure.

A Realm of Crawling Chaos

Like any other roguelike game, the anthill areas are procedurally generated levels. Which means every run will be different from previous run.

“No run will be the same, as each adventure into the ant hill provides you with new challenges and opportunities.”

The anthill is inspired from real life ant hierarchy. Expect to navigate through tunnels infiltrated with worker ants or crystal caves guarded by centipedes. The environment of the anthill really showcases the chaos of the insect kingdom.

Bug Squashing Bonanza

The combat of Ants Took My Eyeball is fast paced and you need to keep the rhythm. You need to keep your pacing to survive the antpocalypse. Of course, you will have access to array of arsenal. You will have plenty of options when it comes to weapons. It can range from swatters to flamethrowers. Each weapon has its own advance and it will help you to annihilate the bugs.

“Find as many new melee weapons, guns, gadgets and trinkets as possible to improve your odds against the powerful enemies that await you. Scrap items for gold and components, upgrade your weapons to more powerful variants, and hoard as many trinkets as possible!”

Of course, the combat is not just mindless slashing bugs. You also need to read all the enemy movement to perform the perfect counter attacks. You also need to master the art of dodging, jumping and dashing. All these elements will allow you to have a seamless combat in Ants Took My Eyeball.

Power Up and Persist

Of course, death will result in you being ejecting from the anthill and restarting the journey. However, you wont entirely go back to square one. You get to keep your power-ups and permanent upgrades that elevates your character.

“Spend gems between runs to upgrade your base with furniture that gives you a nice little head start for your future runs. And who knows, there could also be other permanent unlocks to be found somewhere deep inside the ant hill.”

Death is not the end in the game instead its another chance for you to enhance your character. Each run can make your character stronger by collecting all the loots.

Co-op Mode

“Fight your way through the ant hill either alone or together with friends! Play with full controller support or get hands-on with keyboard and mouse. Steam Remote Play is also supported.”

You can team up with your friends to survive the monstrous insect frenzy. The co-op mode allows up to 4 players in a team. This feature encourages teamwork and strategical coordination. Ofc course, it is always fun to go on a chaotic roguelike journey with friends. Co-op mode allows players to have an unforgettable experience with hilarious chaos.

Conclusion

The game has quirky sense of humor sprinkled all over the game. The visuals of the game is stunning it almost makes you nostalgic and reminds you about arcade games.
