Cloudheim: The Next Big Co-op RPG? Everything We Know So Far

News

Another interesting online co-op action RPG is coming out soon which is inspired by norse mythology. Noodle Cat Games are developing a game called Cloudheim which features chaotic physic-based combat. Noodle Cat Games is a studio founded by veterans of BioWare, EA and Epic Games. The game is scheduled for release in Q3 2025 and it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The game is set in an era where everything is destroyed by Ragnarok and players need to take on the role of champions which are chosen by Norse gods. The main goal is to shape the next realm and rebuild the realm from the destruction of Ragnarok.

The game seems interesting so far as the storytelling has a high Norse mythology inspired storytelling with deep crafting mechanics. The developers aim to give the gamers an unique experience with immersive gameplay.

The Odin Shell: A Mobile Base

One of the most exciting aspects of Cloudheim is the home base which is known as the Odin Shell. The home base is a massive flying turtle instead of your usual stationary base. As you progress through the game you upgrade and expand the base which turns into a thriving workshop, marketplace and a forge.

The Odin Shell is not just your base it also serves as a crucial part of the game’s progression. You will have to build and customize various sections of the base to use it at its full potential.

“Odin Shell, a massive, ancient turtle that carries a fragment of a dead god’s power, is your refuge and portal to the world. Expand your workshop, customize your space, run a thriving shop, and uncover hidden secrets as your fortress takes flight.”

Dynamic, Physics-Based Battles

Most of the RPGs rely on standard hack-and-slash combat whereas Cloudheim incorporates the physics based interaction. You have to manipulate the environment to gain the upper hand during fights with enemies. You can use your grappling hook to pull the enemies closer for some deadly attack or you can create elemental chain attacks.

“Tear down pillars onto the monsters around you, lasso enemies into tornadoes, shoot Greebles out of cannons, or kick exploding barrels into the fray.”

Weapon Crafting and Customization

“With visual crafting, you’ll never have to wait for a friend on a menu. Craft a massive array of weapons, gear, and powerful abilities that you can use in battle”

Cloudheim also allows players to craft their own weapons and customize them. Each item has its unique stats, abilities and of course appearances. This feature adds more depth to the game as players can personalize their gaming experience. The weapon crafting is visually interactive as it allows players to see their creation in real-time.

Floating Islands and Secrets

Since Cloudheim world is composed of flying islands players can easily explore freely and discover hidden dungeons, ancient ruins and secret treasure caches. Moreover, the game also allows players to experience puzzle-based traversal mechanics where players may have to use grappling hooks, wingsuits or sometimes magic. The world also features a dynamic weather system which may affect the combat system of the game.

“Adventure across diverse islands and explore mysterious, changing dungeons filled with challenging enemies, puzzles, crafting resources, and valuable loot waiting to be discovered.”

Cloudheim also has procedural events like sometimes sky pirates may attack Odin Shell or mysterious merchant ships can arrive with rare items.

Graphics and Art Style

Cloudheim artstyle has a similar vibe to Legend of Zelda with semi-realistic art direction. Of course there are hints of Nordic Mythology inspirations. The world is filled with floating ruins, mystical creatures and detailed character designs.

Shared Progression and Teamwork

Unlike most of the multiplayer RPGs where progress is limited to the host’s world, Cloudheim does something different. The game ensures that all players in a co-op session can retain their progression which means whatever progress you make in a host’s world you can carry over it to your solo session.

Conclusion

Cloudheim is shaping up to be an ambitious and exciting entry into the RPG genre. Cloudheim seems promising with all the features and immersive gameplay. The innovative combat system of the game is the main unique selling point. Instead of the usual hack and slash players can enjoy a fresh layer of strategy. Cloudheim is definitely a promising game to look out for!
