The tech landscape welcomes the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S23 Fan Edition (FE), a more cost-friendly variant of the Galaxy S23, prompting discussions about the distinctions between the two smartphones.

At a glance, the Galaxy S23 FE adopts the design of the Galaxy S23, including the trio of vertically aligned cameras on the upper-left rear.

In terms of design, the Galaxy S23 FE aligns closely with the Galaxy S23 and S23+, even in dimensions, providing a comfortable grip without exertion.

Acting as an augment to the Galaxy S23 Series, it presents itself as an alternative for users aspiring to own a high-end Samsung phone at a more “populist” price.

Specifications of S23 FE

The Galaxy S23 FE is outfitted with a 6.4-inch FHD+ and Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display, purportedly offering super-smooth graphics with an Adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate.

Screen brightness can skyrocket from 800 nit to 1,400 nit, accompanied by the Vision Booster feature that autonomously detects bright lighting conditions, especially useful outdoors under the glaring sun.

Shielded with Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and back, the S23 FE assures superior durability and a premium handheld experience.

The gadget comes with an IP68 certification, ensuring resistance to water and dust, and embeds an in-screen fingerprint sensor for enhanced device security.

Camera-wise, the front of the Galaxy S23 FE is equipped with a 10 MP lens, whereas the front camera underwent a downgrade from the 32 MP found in the Galaxy S21 FE.

The camera composition includes a 50 MP main camera (up from 12 MP), plus 10 MP ultra-wide and 8 MP telephoto lenses with 3x optical zoom capabilities.

Notable Differences

While the S23 and S23 FE might appear strikingly similar – perhaps like two halves of a betel nut, indicating negligible design and display differences – distinctions are present in several pivotal specs:

Powerhouse

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is powered by Exynos 2200, an older processor used in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Series, while the Galaxy S23 utilizes Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy.

Citing comparisons from gadget specification site Versus, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 harbors several advantages and drawbacks compared to Samsung Exynos 2200, involving distinctions in CPU speed, RAM speed, download speed, and more.

Memory and Storage Specifications

A notable difference is evident in the RAM and storage technology between the models. The Galaxy S23 FE is equipped with LPDDR5 RAM and employs UFS 3.1 storage memory.

On the other hand, its counterpart, the standard Galaxy S23 (offering 256 GB), comes embedded with advanced LPDDR5X RAM and utilizes UFS 4.0 storage.

Battery Capacity and Charging Capabilities

The Galaxy S23 FE brings forth a robust 4,500 mAh battery, eclipsing the more traditional S23, which hosts a 3,900 mAh unit.

Progressing up the series, the S23 Plus introduces a 4,700 mAh battery, while the upscale S23 Ultra retains a substantial 5,000 mAh, matching the S22 Ultra, although this comes with a somewhat elevated price to accommodate the ample battery provision.

Additionally, the Galaxy S23 FE ensures no corners are cut in the charging department, embedding the same 25W rapid charging and also proffering support for wireless charging functionalities.

Price

Naturally, pricing also varies between the two phone models, breaking down as follows:

Galaxy S23 FE

8/128 GB: $799

8/256 GB: $849

Galaxy S23 (expected price)

8/128 GB: $599
