What Is Creature Keeper?

Developed by Fervir Games and published by Graffiti Games, Creature Keeper released on May 8, 2025 on PC via Steam. The combat is smooth and intuitive with real-time input, and quick thinking about which ones to swap. The party can be commanded together, and combine a barrage of attacks with the ability to dodge attacks and all 4 abilities that are skill gems. Creature Keeper is not turn-based, and the real-time combat style provided a fast-paced combat experience and condensed it down into a playable action platformer with exciting – elevator-style action.

Each creature has its own stats, elemental affinities, and signature moves that inspire players to try different combinations. Assembling a balanced team means mixing up tanky defenders, ranged attackers, and taking other contextual factors into consideration.

The Pocket Garden System

The Pocket Garden is an entirely reimagined approach to inventory management that lets you sprout ingredients and grow buff items when out and about. Just like having a farming tool in your pocket – you can plant seeds, harvest boosts, and grow cooking items when running around doing your adventures. This is a no-backtracking mechanic, helping the game stay focused while also adding a soothing farming-RPG mechanic.

Skill Gems, Perks & Customization

Customization comes from being able to change how your creatures behave in-game with Skill Gems and Perks, letting you personalize different abilities of the creatures. You put Skill Gems on the creature that allow for elemental damage, changes in speed, or changes in an animation sequence/if you want the player to have special animations. And with per-mit-based customizations, caps, hats, and other different cosmetic items, every creature has the potential to either reflect your choices or your play style.

Exploration & World of Thera

Thera is a mystery that includes beautiful forests, creepy swamps, and ancient ruins. Each area encourages exploration, with many mysteries hidden within, and with each hidden location is the potential to unlock rare creatures. Each area also has story fragments that you can learn from to expand and add flavor to your story. Who wouldn’t want to find out what the Thera secrets are while battering with a slime or skeleton?

The Bestiary & Knowledge Buffs

Completing the Bestiary grants buffs, items, and stat increases to the player. It encourages exploration of the giant seasons because every new entry is an add to the lore, as well as an actual bonus to the player. Knowledge is power in this system.

Art Style & Audio Design

Creature Keeper’s pixel art maintains a retro appearance while still feeling modern , thanks in large part to its smooth animations and living world around the player. Every sound and music piece comes from the solo developer who created the original music for the game.

Progression & Leveling

The player earns XP while exploring and battling, and so do the creatures. As the player levels, they unlock new skills, new inventory slots, and new upgrades for their pocket garden. Having this steady progression throughout the play session means there is always something new and fresh to go after.
