There is a rare chance that the ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 4 will hold its own against the other Yoga models.

One of the most talked-about business laptops right now is the newest addition to Lenovo’s legendary ThinkPad series—the L13 Yoga Gen 4—which is famous for its long lifespan, strong security features, and outstanding performance. There is a lot of history behind this instrument, so it has high expectations.

Featuring a 13th Gen Intel Core i7-1355U processor, an optional 4G LTE connection, and a built-in pen for notetaking or sketching, this convertible laptop offers the classic ThinkPad experience with modern twists and is priced between $1,200 and $1,600. It is positioned as a midrange option for professionals on the go. The premium business laptop market is very competitive, and the L13 Yoga Gen 4 needs to differentiate itself more.

The L13 Yoga Gen 4 maintains the classic ThinkPad look with its supple gray-black exterior and Lenovo and ThinkPad logos. This device’s ability to transform from a laptop to a tablet highlights its versatility, making it an excellent choice for professionals seeking a hybrid 2-in-1 solution. It may be 2.9 pounds and have a competitive appearance, but it has its drawbacks as well. Not only does it have a plastic bottom that gives way too easily, but the heavy bezels surrounding the screen are a definite throwback.

Thunderbolt 4, USB Type-A, HDMI, and 4G LTE connectivity are just a few of the ports and options available on the L13 Yoga Gen 4 for those who require a computer that is always connected. This is likely to make it an essential item for many professionals who are constantly on the move. Lenovo has really gone above and beyond with this gadget in terms of security and privacy. It has a fingerprint reader, a privacy shutter for the webcam, and a separate TPM 2.0 security chip.

Nevertheless, there is an issue with the device’s screen. The lack of brightness on the 13.3-inch, 1920 x 1200p screen becomes noticeable when watching multimedia content, which is disappointing considering the price range of the tablet. Also, the sound coming out of the bottom-firing speakers could be better; it has a little depth or richness to it.

I also thought this Yoga might have performed better in terms of performance. With 16 GB of RAM and an Intel Core i7-1355U processor, it manages multitasking and productivity tasks adequately. However, the integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics needs to be more powerful for the kind of visual design work that professionals seeking the best 2-in-1 laptop will be seeking.

Battery life is adequate for a premium laptop, but it falls short of expectations for a computer of this price. Users who are often away from an outlet may find this a major drawback, reducing the gadget’s usefulness.

In the end, the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 4 takes design cues from previous Yoga models. It’s a decent 2-in-1 for most professionals, but it could be much better—and it should be, considering the price.

Price and Availability

With pricing varying from $1,200 to $1,600, the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 4 is marketed as a flexible laptop in the middle of the price range. At this price point, it goes up against other high-end business laptops on the market, including some of Lenovo’s own, like the ThinkPad X1 Nano and Yoga.

For about $1,439.99, you can get the most basic setup, which comes with a Core i5-1335U CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, from big-name stores like Amazon and Best Buy. At the upper end of the price spectrum, you can find a Lenovo L13 Yoga Gen 4 model at Best Buy for approximately $1,579.99. This model comes with a Core i7-1355U CPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD.

Lenovo’s official website usually has more customization options, so users can make their devices fit their needs. However, the ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 4 is listed as coming soon on the official page, so for now, potential buyers can only find pre-configured options through third-party retailers.

Design

Although it may be a touch austere now, the ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 4’s design stays true to the iconic ThinkPad aesthetic, providing a clean and expert appearance. Identifying this as a ThinkPad product is easy thanks to the lid and keydeck branding, and the L13 Yoga Gen 4 maintains a visual connection to the ThinkPad ecosystem with its trademark luminous red dot above the ‘i’ on the lid.

Nevertheless, there are certain issues with the design. When contrasted with more contemporary designs, the display’s thick bezels give off an impression of antiquity. Furthermore, the laptop’s base is constructed from plastic, which compromises rigidity for the sake of weight reduction. For a convertible laptop, which is likely to be handled more often than a regular clamshell model, the lack of hardness is especially problematic.

As far as ports and connectivity options go, the L13 Yoga Gen 4 has a decent selection, with Thunderbolt 4, USB Type-A, HDMI, and optional 4G LTE connectivity. The latter is a must-have for professionals who want a computer that can stay connected at all times.

With its many ports and connectors, this gadget is ideal for professionals on the go. The built-in pen is great for taking notes and drawing, and the charging dock is a nice touch that makes it even more convenient to use as a tablet.

Performance

Things definitely go downhill for the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 4 when it comes to performance. The device’s benchmark results are alright, but they’re not up to snuff for anything more demanding than basic computing and general productivity, which is about all you can expect from a 2-in-1. Anyone anticipating a chance to unleash their artistic side with Adobe or comparable creative applications will likely be let down by the reality that they will essentially be limited to drawing brief sketches to convey ideas to coworkers or clients.

The Bottom Line

A reliable convertible laptop in the medium price bracket, the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga Gen 4 brings a touch of modernity to the traditional ThinkPad experience. Professionals love it because of all the connectivity possibilities, security features, and versatility it offers. On the other hand, not everyone will be satisfied with its average battery life, plastic base, and uninspiring screen.
