LG has unveiled its 2022 television range, and one of the new additions is called QNED, a quantum dot NANOCELL display. The QNED90T is one of the best LG has to offer, offering 65 inches of premium picture quality including LG’s smart webOS interface. After testing, I can see what QNED has over high-end LED and OLED TVs which are part of what you get from this television.

Picture Quality

This quantum dot Nano cell technology-based TV comes supported with mini-LED backlighting that provides a sunny and colorful 4K display. It boasts of an excellent color accuracy with bright and pop colors in the SDR/HDR content space. The other aspect which surely is fine for an LED TV is the contrast: blacks are deep and the brightest parts do not wash out the picture.

LG’s Local Dimming assists the 65-inch model in achieving over one thousand unique dimming areas so that it does not have blooming issues around objects. Of course, the local dimming algorithm isn’t as accurate as you would get on some of the best Samsung and Sony TVs out there but it does manage concepts like a combination of blacks and whites without much of a hitch.

Another of the QNED90T’s greatest assets is the ability to upscale lower resolution content for 4K playback. It enhances realism to high-definition content from cable/satellite and streaming services. Other standard definition video sources also appear to be slightly better post processing by LG’s α7 Gen5 AI chip than expected.

Gaming Performance

Being an OLED TV with features for the future generations of gaming consoles, QNED90T is a perfect console for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. It turns into a low latency game optimizer mode with VRR support when it detects that a game console is connected.

Time between the input and reaction on the screen is as low as 5ms when the Game Optimizer mode is on. It’s also compatible with the new HDMI 2.1 PC gaming features like 4K/120Hz, ALLM, and eARC. Compatibility with AMD FreeSync Premium, and Nvidia G-Sync also ensure that games run smoothly without screen tearing.

Though not as good as self-emissives in the OLED TVs the QNED90T does pull deep blacks for decent contrast and brighten up the highlights when gaming in the dark. The local dimming system also maintains blooming effectively around luminous objects; Blooming caused by the local dimming system.

Smart Features

New generation LG TVs with webOS enable users to quickly launch your favorite streaming platforms, such as Neflix, Disney+, Hulu, and others. There is an idea of the recommendations according to the profile of the user, while a Strip at the bottom will allow one to switch to favorite inputs and applications.

Voice control of the TV is conveniently implemented by means of the built – in microphones that are compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant. Smartphones and laptops, and other portable devices can also be cast wirelessly via Apple AirPlay 2 and Chromecast compatibility.

Today for those who own an LG soundbar, the webOS platform allows you to integrate the two devices directly in the settings of the TV. All the controls related to audio, input selection and many more are possible with the QNED90T without having to pick the different remotes.

Design

A low height and beautiful metal support mean QNED90T is stylish and sleek and should complement most modern and even classic interiors. These are coupled with super thin bezel on all sides, and the same single pane of glass when the screen is off. It can also be wall mounted using a standard 400×400 bracket which is not included upon purchase. But know that, while not using the stand provided by LG, several picture settings are locked.

Audio Quality

As I expected at most it has as it is very slim the 20W 2.2-channel sound onboard is insignificant in bass and expansiveness. Thankfully, LG is equipped with eARC for Dolby Atmos lossless transmission in addition to WiSA wireless speakers. I suggest associating the TV with at least a small soundbar to get even more clear and wide sound. Other audio integrational aspects are also easier to set up as compared to using a stand-alone bar and a universal remote control.

Final Verdict

QNED is LG’s new technology that gives one of the best LED-LCD picture quality one can get in the market today without paying the price for self-emissive OLED or microLED. Solid contrast, bright HDR, stable gaming, and well-thought integration make the 65-inch 90T series model a wonderful high-end overall performer even though it only has a decentLY built-in audio quality.
