LG brought the world's first wireless transparent OLED TV to CES 2024

At CES each year, LG typically unveils a range of new television models, primarily featuring the conventional flat screen design. However, at this year’s event in Las Vegas, the company is introducing a groundbreaking addition to its lineup alongside updates to the M- and G-series. The OLED T marks LG’s venture into the realm of wireless transparent OLED TVs, boasting 4K resolution and incorporating LG’s advanced wireless transmission technology for both audio and video. Notably, the unit includes a unique contrast screen that can be rolled down into a base box, offering the convenience of adjustable height through a simple button press.

Driving the OLED T is LG’s latest innovation, the Alpha 11 AI processor, exhibiting four times the performance of its predecessor. This enhanced processing capability results in a remarkable 70 percent boost in graphics performance and a 30 percent increase in processing speed, as stated by the company. Complementing this, the OLED T model is compatible with LG’s Zero Connect Box, introduced with the M3 OLED in the previous year, allowing wireless transmission of video and audio from connected devices. Users can consolidate their streaming devices and gaming consoles with this external box rather than directly connecting them to the television.

The base of the OLED T accommodates down-firing speakers, delivering surprisingly good sound quality, along with other internal components. While the TV features backlights, users have the option to activate them for a fully transparent appearance. LG offers the OLED T in standalone, against-the-wall, and wall-mounted configurations.

Initial interactions with the OLED T visuals might be slightly unsettling, with images on the transparent display appearing almost lifelike. However, content such as a fish tank and movie clips demonstrates crisp and vivid visuals. LG introduces the T-Bar on the OLED T, overlaying a chyron-like mix of news, weather updates, song titles, and more at the bottom of the screen while maintaining clarity in the rest of the display.

Notably, Samsung also unveiled a transparent TV at CES 2024, featuring Micro OLED technology. While it shares a bright and sharp display, details regarding its availability and pricing remain undisclosed. LG, too, refrains from disclosing pricing details but has confirmed plans to launch the OLED TV in 2024.
