Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii – Everything We Know So Far

News

The Yakuza franchise is always known for its over the top action, storytelling and absolutely hilarious humor. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will release a new Yakuza game known as  – Everything We Know So Far on 20th February 2025. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

“Embark on an over-the-top, modern-day pirate adventure with an ex-yakuza, now pirate captain and his crew as they engage in exhilarating combat on land and sea in the hunt for lost memories and a legendary treasure.”

The game revolves around Goro Majima and fictionalized Hawaiian archipelago. Players will get the chance to explore vibrant islands with engaging thrilling combat. Moreover, you will get to assemble your own pirate crew which makes it more exciting. The game brings a fresh twist to the franchise while keeping the absurd humor and drama intact.

Plot and Setting: A Pirate’s Tale in Hawaii

The notorious ex-yakuza Goro Majima suddenly finds himself in a chaotic shipwreck on a remote island of Hawaii. He can’t remember his own name so he sets sail in search of clues to bring back his own memories. Majima is accompanied by a boy named Noah who saves his life.

“Before long, they’re caught up in a conflict between cutthroat criminals, modern-day pirates, and other scoundrels over a legendary treasure.”

As you step in the shoes of Goro Majima you will soon find yourself entangled in a hunt for legendary treasure which can reveal more lore to the story. However the treasure is also being hunted by the outlaw paradise who are known as Madlantis.

There are also several new locations for you to explore around such as:

  • Rich Islands: It is a bustling town filled with casinos and bars
  • Madlantis: It is a sunken city which holds a lot of secrets and multiple criminal organizations coexist. It is like Atlantis but mad!
  • Nele Island: A tropical heaven which is home to many pirates and outlaws
  • Honolulu: A lively city where you can find several side activities, quotes and minigames

Ready the Sails, Raise Some Hell

You need to assemble your crew while upgrading your pirate ship. Try to explore the open sea to either get ambushed or make some unexpected friendships.

“Conquer the seas, discover hidden islands and acquire loads of loot like a true yakuza pirate!”

If an enemy ship catches your ship in their territory then there will be real time cannon battle. Try to maneuver properly to avoid any shots which can lead to significant damage.

High-Seas Action Meets Classic Like a Dragon Combat

“Mix-up attacks and deliver explosive combos, juggles, and aerial takedowns that reward your creativity with over-the-top action.”

The Yakuza franchise is back again with a creative combat system. This time they introduced “Mad Dog” and “Sea Dog” fighting styles.

  • Mad Dog Style: Iconic fast-paced, acrobatic combat, which is similar to the combat mechanism of previous games.
  • Sea Dog Style: A brand-new fighting mode that allows Majima to dual-wield cutlasses and pistols. It helps you to deploy some tricky pirate tools to win against the outlaws!

Side Activities and Minigames

You can come across several side activities in the game. The game offers various quirky and diverse minigames such as:

  • Karaoke: This is a fan favorite from previous games and now you can have pirate theme songs
  • Dragon Kart: This is a high speed kart racing mode which will make its return in the game
  • Crazy Delivery: This is a minigame inspired by classic arcade games where you need to complete fast paced delivery challenges
  • Masaru’s Love Journey: This is where Majima helps Masaru to win some hearts with the Minato girls

Community Hype and Excitement

The Yakuza community is definitely excited but they are also a bit shocked since it is quite out of place to have a pirate theme. As Goro Majima has been one of the favorite main characters of the Yakuza game for a while the players are quite excited to see him in the leading role.

Moreover, the Hawaiian islands brought a refreshing turn to the games but still kept the humor and over the top dramatic humor intact. Players are also excited to try out the naval combat system which introduces the pirate mechanics, ship battles and other exploration options.

Conclusion

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii might be one of the most unique and funny games in the series. The new pirated theme will be exciting for the community to immerse themselves in. The game promises to deliver an unforgettable experience.
