Caught in a traffic jam on the A2 with a Porsche 911 Dakar, equipped with a roof rack, sand shovel, and jerry cans, we couldn’t help but feel a bit out of place. This amusing scenario makes us question the likelihood of us ordering an Audi Q8 E-Tron Edition Dakar anytime soon.
While SUVs often exude a sense of adventure, the reality is that most find themselves helplessly stuck at the first sandy ledge if their owners dare to venture off the asphalt. However, the Audi Q8 E-Tron Edition Dakar may offer a better chance of making progress, boasting a distinctly combative appearance inspired by the Dakar Rally, according to Audi.
Based on the Q8 E-Tron 55 Quattro, the Dakar edition features a 106 kWh battery, delivering an impressive 408 hp and 664 Nm of torque. Despite its all-terrain tires affecting speed slightly, it still accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, providing a competitive edge at the traffic light. The Dakar offers a noteworthy range of 487 kilometers.
Distinguishing itself from the regular Q8 E-Tron, the Dakar sits 3.1 centimeters higher on its chassis. Additionally, it comes with two sets of tires – off-road tires showcased in the photos and regular summer tires. The limited edition Q8 E-Tron Edition Dakar, available in beige, gray, and black, is restricted to just 99 units, each priced at over 120,000 euros in Germany.
Adding a touch of Dakar Rally flair, the Dakar edition can be adorned with a sticker set reminiscent of the RS Q E-Tron participating in the rally. In a somewhat ironic note, Audi discusses optional left and right camera mirrors to enhance the E-Tron’s air resistance, while simultaneously featuring a roof rack with a spare wheel – an unintended contradiction highlighted in their press release.
