Remedy’s Universe May Come To TV And Film

News

Remedy Entertainment is the developer behind 3 of the most mind numbing stories told through games, Alan Wake, Control and their recent sequel Alan Wake 2. Those who have played these masterpieces will understand the unique way the supernatural is introduced and a story is built upon.

Saying Remedy’s writing throughout the years has been ‘consistent’ would be an understatement, playing through Alan Wake and Control, both of which are vastly different titles still somehow had the same level of intrigue and would invoke this sense of curiosity. Alan Wake had the mystery of a small out of way town to explore while Control had a huge corporate ever changing building to explore.

Recently, Remedy Entertainment and Annapurna Interactive the developers behind the brilliantly designed game ‘Stray’ are partnering up to bring Remedy’s universe to TV and film. Annapurna did also announce before that they were working on trying to bring the universe of ‘Stray’ to the medium as well.

The Intrigue of Remedy’s Universe

Those who have played Alan Wake will know the jumpscares and gore that happens due to the supernatural that invades the town of Bright Falls and soon its becomes a slow realization that Alan Wake, a writer, is experiencing his own writing, all of the particular monsters, the possessed individuals and dialogue is what is written in his manuscript and now he is living it but at the same time he doesn’t remember when he wrote it.

Control, which was released by Remedy in 2019 was thought to be an entirely different game but following the same style of writing and still dealing with the supernatural but those thoughts were dashed when eagle-eyed viewers noticed several descriptions mentioning Bright Falls and the events that happened there. The DLCs revealed more crucial information about the characters from Alan Wake and fleshing out the story for Alan Wake 2.

Alan Wake 2, which is Remedy’s most recent title, where the player controls Alex Casey, an FBI agent who is a character Alan Wake wrote for his detective novels from the very first game. This person has somehow been manifested and as her, we have to investigate what is happening in Bright Falls once again.

In all three games, there is Remedy’s charm of revealing just the right amount of crucial information to the player to keep investigating more and rewarding those who were paying attention from the very first. Remedy has plans for paid DLCs of Alan Wake 2 thus ensuring a continuing saga for Alan Wake, Jesse Faden and Alex Casey.

How It Maybe Received On TV And Film

The universe of Remedy is too detailed with too many moving parts to write out in an article, those who want to delve into the series and experience the brilliance of Remedy should play their games. There is no doubt as to the success the TV/Film adaptations may reach but in order to get there Remedy and Annapurna have to market it very well (looking at you Sony).

This is being said because Alan Wake 2 still hasn’t made Remedy a profit, Remedy or Epic need to make sure more people who aren’t familiar with Remedy’s games are made aware. Of Course another thing to be mindful of is the delivery of the story and the portrayal of the characters, nobody would want another Borderlands and the train wreck that movie was.

Just Release It On Steam

As of June, It is being reported that Alan Wake 2 hasn’t made a profit for Remedy and that is being because of lack of quality. People are saying it’s because of the exclusivity deal with Epic. Alan Wake 2 isn’t available on the biggest storefront and there hasn’t been any indication on releasing it on Steam.

Control was released on Steam on August 2020 and as of 2024 has sold over 4 million copies while Alan Wake 2 still being on the Epic Games Store had sold around 1.3 million copies as of February, this was taken from Remedy’s investor report which also stated that Alan Wake 2 is their fastest selling game but what good is that if in the end a profit hasn’t been made. While Remedy may release it on Steam, there hasn’t been indication for it which begs the question of whether Remedy will produce a profit for Alan Wake 2 or not.
