The Finals is a free to play multiplayer shooter from Embark Studios under the company Nexon. It was released in December of 2023 and has rapidly gained traction in the free to play space with their unique cash out game mode. Embark Studios have consistently maintained the game with steady updates and periodic seasons, the latest season 6 is right around the corner and Embark has teased new weapons, new sponsors and a revamped map.
An Entry Into Esports
The Finals have been hosting various tournaments throughout last year and inviting notable creators to compete and ultimately win various cash events. As such in the beginning of March Embark released a blog post stating that The Finals is now on the road to esports.
The first tournament will be held in the fourth quarter of this year with a 100,000 dollar cash prize, moreover it is open to everyone and it will be a LAN event. This is a huge step in the right direction for the game and promises to get even more players interested.
This development has also been reflected in game, with a more enhanced and fine grained experience with private lobbies. Private match hosts can create teams more easily by dragging and dropping them, pick maps and their variants (night or day versions) and also pick which events will occur during the match.
Spectator has also been heavily redone to allow multiple cameras across the map, along with that cameras can now track players with a 3rd person overview and of course they can also be viewed in first person too.
There’s A Minigun Coming
Season 6 of the finals introduces 3 new weapons for everyone to play around with, the highlight being that the heavy class will receive a minigun as a weapon to choose. While some did speculate that this could’ve been a specialty, those were put to rest when the trailers dropped showcasing a heavy mowing down several opponents after exiting a lift.
Medium and Light class mains won’t be disappointed either as they are also receiving brand new weapons to reach the finals with. The medium class is getting the CB-01 Repeater, a hard hitting lever action built for precision, perfect for those getting those high risk high reward plays.
The Light class is receiving its first assault rifle this season, which is the ARN-220 a high fire rate rifle coupled with fast reloading is capable of shredding any target in front of it before they even know what hit them.
New And Returning Sponsors
As they started with season 4 of the Finals, introducing sponsors for players to compete with to win rewards like weapon skins, outfits for characters, cards and badges. This time around the sponsors are OSPUZE, ALFA ACTA and ENGIMO who are returning from the previous seasons.
It will be exciting to see what kind of rewards each sponsor offers, for example ENGIMO offered amazing skins for the sniper rifle for the Light Class, while season 5’s sponsor DISSUN offered skin for the Cerberus-12A shotgun.
Season 4 featured an amazing skin for the Hammer that belongs to the Heavy class, so now there is a lot of speculation floating on what weapon skins each sponsor will feature and how much one needs to grind for it.
Conclusion
Embark Studios have been doing everything right to keep their game in the spotlight considering free to play titles are popping up left and right at the same rate they keep getting shut down. The new season will even feature what much of the community wanted, a Team Deathmatch mode.
For the past few days Embark has been teasing every new thing that season 6 will feature everything from the weapons, battle pass, weapon skins and outfits. The outfit system is also getting new features where players can now customize every single part of any predefined outfit, this was not allowed before, which now allows players to express themselves even more than before.
Even though there isn’t a new map for this season, Embark has stated that the Las Vegas map has been revamped and redesigned to reflect the new sponsors. Overall season 6 is shaping up to be even better than the previous season, new weapons and features are what keep the interest for any title and it matters even more so for free to play FPS games.
