Starfield’s latest update which is Update 1.14.74 has been finally made available to the public, it was in beta before and only those signed to test the updates were allowed to play it. Bethesda is staying true to their word as they are consistently providing updates and improving the player experience as much as possible.
Improvements To The Creation Kit
For those that don’t know the creation kit is a Software development kit (SDK) that basically allows modders to add their creations to the game, be it missions, gear or skins, really anything that can be modded in the game, it was released in June shortly after the Xbox showcase. These “creations” can then be purchased through creation credits.
For this new update the creation kit received the “lip sync animation data generation” which helps in making NPCs lips move according to whatever dialogue they are being designed to speak.
Another big change was the fact that in the patch before, if a player wanted to play the game using mods their achievements would be disabled, in this update however there is the ability to add achievement friendly mods, Verified Creators of the Creators program can now have the option to make their mods achievement friendly.
Although these are good updates, a popular remark is the fact that a lot of these creations are priced too high. While short questions are charged around 7 dollars, for bigger quests the price is calculated per missions which make the price reach obscene heights.
Lots Of Improvements And Bug Fixes
This update reintroduces uncapped frame rates for the Xbox series X, on top of that the updates addresses around 30 bugs and issues which were present in major quests such as “What Remains”, “A house divided” and “Zealous Overreach”.
In terms of gameplay, the update addresses the following:
- The Annihilator Particle beam’s damage overtime does not trigger companion reactions
- A leadership issue which had caused companions to not speak up
- Destroyed ships could load in without collision.
- Loading in saves would sometimes place the player in random locations
In terms of quests, the update fixes:
- The Starjacker quest will now display the correct objective when the player boards the Junker Watchdog.
- In the “The Duel” quest players will now be able to speak to Danika if they chose the option that gets them arrested
- In the quest “What Remains” the issue where a hatch becomes non-interactable if there are certain creations installed has been fixed.
- In the quest “House Divided” , the doors in the Radiology center will now stay unlocked even if the player exits and returns, additionally they can now obtain the keycard from Madri after completing the quest.
These are just some of the issues and bugs that are being addressed, they have released patch notes that contain a lot more details about the host issues that this patch addressed.
Along with these bug fixes they also added a new land vehicle called the “Deimog” for players to drive around and also a new questline called “The Perfect Recipe” for players to experience. Which they state is character-driven story involving a mechanic and a way to reignite his love for culinary arts.
The Future Of Starfield
It is clear that Bethesda is dedicated to the progress of Starfield, they have been consistently addressing bugs and adding new content to the game. The updates to the creation kit is no doubt bringing more players as they can now experience the game in a new way through new gears or mission design. Bethesda can still improve this system by taking a page from Larian Studios feature rich way to add mods to their wildly successful Baldur’s Gate 3.
While the first DLC for Starfield wasn’t as well received as Bethesda could’ve hoped, they still plan to release more DLCs in the future and they will hopefully take in the criticisms they released from this one to make sure they don’t make the same mistakes.
Hopefully this commitment makes Starfield reach the heights and community support that No Man’s Sky was able to achieve with their consistent updates and addition of new content to the game.
