The Blood Of Dawnwalker, This Deserves To Be On Everybody’s Radar

News

The Blood of the Dawnwalker’s trailer was released on January 14th and it already has people interested in its story gameplay and most importantly the developers behind the game. It is being made by Rebel Wolves, a studio composed of ex-CD Projekt developers. This is set to be their first AAA title release coming either this year or 2026.

The Premise Of Blood Of Dawnwalker

It is clear from the get-go how much of an inspiration the environments of the Witcher series was, the cinematic trailer itself already starts off with a man Coen, carrying his sister who has the plague being hunted by soldiers who will execute them to deter the spreading, just like the cinematics of the Witcher games, right before they get killed we get the reveal of what this game is about, which is vampires.

Right as the execution is about to happen Vampires appear to slaughter the soldiers who are hunting Coen and his sister. The Vampires themselves seems to have a lot of varied powers such other than having fast reflexes, some of them have the ability to summon claws, some have the ability to summon red tentacles that can grab others and some were shown to have telekinesis powers as they turned one of the soldiers to mush as he was trying to ride away.

Then the leader vampire takes the child that was suffering from the disease be taken and be fed his blood which shows to cure her but creates the uncertainty of whether this child will be turned into a vampire or not. After which we cut to another scene where Coen seems to have become a vampire himself with silver eyes and has claws.

The Gameplay Mechanics

Although this was mostly a cinematic reveal trailer, some gameplay was shown at the end with Cohen fighting soldiers during the night and fighting what appear to be bio-mechanical monsters during the day. It could be that the powers we see the vampires have from the first scene are a bit of a showcase as to what we could have as powers ourselves as we play through the game.

We certainly have to wait some time to get a proper idea of what the gameplay will truly be like, as the trailer says at the end that a gameplay reveal is coming around summer of this year. The developers did release a deep dive into the idea and environments that are featured in the game being a village in 14th century Europe that had seen no shortage of wars and famine.

They also explained that Coen is someone who has Argyria, a medical condition which has the effect of building up silver on the person’s body. This is the reason which allows Coen to use vampiric powers but at the same time prevents him from fully becoming a vampire, allowing him to walk around under sun too.

A Narrative Sandbox Experience

In the deep dive they mention that Coen has limited time which is 30 days and nights to save his family from the vampires that are planning to take over. Along with that they plan to introduce mechanics that make it harder to distinguish between which missions are side quests and which main quests thus pressuring the player to think twice before committing to any mission as time is an important factor.

The interview also delves into whether the story has a set path with no alternate endings or not, they discussed that since they moved away from categorizing a quest as either a “main quest” or “side quest” this has allowed them to think more openly about the effects of completing quests.

This could mean that the game could have vastly different endings based on how the player chooses his or her missions on each playthrough, ultimately providing a unique enough experience every time is always a plus as this increases the replayability aspect.

A Worthwhile Wait

Although there is no official release date and gameplay reveal is set to come out during the summer, there is speculation that the game may come out next year. However there is also discussion that since they’ve already shown some gameplay footage, it could also be likely that it could be a 2025 release.

Nevertheless the footage shown is extremely promising and they are delivering from their experience working on both the Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 on Blood of Dawnwalker. It is going to be a worthwhile wait to see how the game is perceived and what kind of experience Rebel Wolves has to offer to the players.
