Warzone and Black ops 6 recently announced their newest collaboration, which is a surprise to be sure to many fans as it is with the hit South Korean Series Squid Game. The series recently released season 2 and thus around December 3 and it is likely to last a month. The update features a battle pass with the event along with the regular battle pass for players to complete.
Some Limited Time Game Modes
One of the most iconic scenes from the series, “Red Light Green Light” has been created for players to take part in. The mode features the field from the game as the area where players have to move and freeze as per the scenes from Squid Game. It is played in three rounds with each mode lasting around 2 mins.
In round one of the game there are no weapons allowed, but from rounds 2 and 3 players can pick up melee weapons and try to eliminate other competing players while at the same time trying to reach the finish line.
Another interesting addition is the new playlist featured which is the “Pentathlon”, where players will compete in a variety of game modes like Kill Confirmed, Domination and Hardpoint. Along with these regular modes 2 new modes are being added from the series which are Piggy Bank Team Deathmatch and Roulette.
The Zombies Community Gets Some Love Too
Fans of the zombies game mode will be delighted as well with a new game mode being added which is the altered version of Red Light Green Light, called “Dead Light Green Light”. This mode is available to play on Liberty Falls and the new Citadelle Des Morts.
Here the “Green Light” allows players to get a bonus amount of essence when eliminating zombies, the “Red Light” drains this essence from players who were caught moving. Additionally, the “Dead Light” phase will involve the players facing off against a tougher horde of zombies for a limited time frame.
These tougher hordes of zombies could be a combination of the new zombies that were featured in the DLC that was released not too long ago but new zombies could be featured altogether for this new update.
Additions To Warzone And Cosmetics
Warzone will also receive the Squid Game love with a rotating series of the previously mentioned game modes. With each passing round a set of underperforming teams will be eliminated at any time.
The update is also featuring some iconic dresses and looks from the series, one of the main featured packs being the signature pink mask worker from the show. The VIP look with the suit and animal masks and finally the Young-hee pack from the “Red Light Green Light” mode.
However there is a sizable amount of the community that is displeased with this update due to the fact that a lot of the rewards that players expected to be free are locked behind 10 dollars for some reason. A lot of the new content such as the new operator, multiple blueprints and finishing moves that players expected they had to grind for are only available through paying money.
Activision Has Done It Yet Again
Activision has managed to follow in the same footsteps as Electronic Arts did some years ago which is cramming micro-transactions wherever possible. While the collaboration with various franchises, movies and TV series are a welcome sight, the fact that Activision was this shameless in inserting microtransaction this way shows that they will do anything to pry the wallets open of anyone supporting them.
While Activision could revert these micro transactions it is very unlikely they will do so at this point. The tale of these pricey packs is getting old at this point but they know they are making a sizable profit off it so they will not stop or revert the pricing.
The only way to stop micro transactions is to stop buying them altogether as a collective effort but players are unlikely to do so themselves thus these practices will continue in Call of Duty along with any other title we can think of that has micro transactions in them.
