In this evaluation, we examine the practical driving range of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Discrepancies between the officially stated WLTP range and the actual range can be significant for certain vehicles. Autovisie conducts tests under real-world conditions, including the use of air conditioning and radio, to provide a more accurate understanding of the achievable distance with an electric vehicle (EV).
The Hyundai Ioniq 5, equipped with a rear-axle electric motor generating 229 hp and 350 Nm of torque, features a 77.4 kWh battery pack. During the test conducted with an ambient temperature around freezing, the charging speed exhibited fluctuations, typically hovering around 125 kW with a brief peak at 200 kW—respectable, but falling short of the 235 kW technically possible. Notably, the specified charging time of 18 minutes for charging from 10 to 80 percent was exceeded by 10 minutes.
In terms of actual range, the rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 5, equipped with 19-inch wheels, exhibited a consumption of 20.7 kWh per 100 kilometers at an outside temperature of five degrees and strong winds. While not particularly economical, this consumption rate translates to a range of 357 kilometers with a conservative driving style. Considering the vehicle’s modest battery size, approximately 265 kilometers can be expected if every kilometer matters.
