If you want to get decent sound on your TV, without the need to purchase new speakers or surround sound system, then the soundbar would be right for you. You get a much better sound quality from a Soundbar than from your TV built-in speakers. I recently got my hands on the Vizio 2.1 Soundbar (SV210M-0808) and tested it out; here is a mini review.

Overview

The Vizio SV210M-0808 can be regarded as an affordable 2.1 channel soundbar and a wireless subwoofer. The Marshall soundbar is configured for left and right channel speakers that are built in and it has wireless connection to the 6 inch supplied subwoofer for bass. This comes with the advantage of having a discrete centre channel for dialogue and surround effects, in addition to having a discrete subwoofer which provides the explosive, effects or musical based content with some solid bass.

Setup and Connectivity

I found the Vizio 2.1 soundbar quite easy to set up since everything is well thought out. For connection to your TV options available are optical, analog, USB, and HDMI which are all found at the back of the soundbar. I plugged into the optical input in my TV. The wireless subwoofer connected on its own once it was connected into the power source and I switched on the soundbar. The whole process setup took me not more than 10 minutes.

The remote that comes with the Vizio soundbar is simple and unassuming, which is just as well since it only has a few functions to perform. It is equipped with power button, volume control wheel, input selection button and a Bluetooth connectivity button. The soundbar can also support Bluetooth which means you can play your songs via your phone or tablet.

Sound Quality

As for the performance of this relatively cheap 2.1 channel system likely none will be disappointed with the sound quality of the Vizio SV210M-0808. The acoustic sound output system cutting across the two bar electronic speakers averagely creates a clear stereo channel. Like in TV programs or films, dialogue emanates clearly and comes from a central channel. Again the wireless subwoofer gives out reasonable bass response for an 6-inch driver on a speaker. Action scenes and blasts can be heard with lot of low end rumbles. This is also good for music since there is dedicated subwoofer to push out the bass of the track.

The soundbar has DTS Virtual:X audio processing for a wider sense of sound than it actually is. While it does a satisfactory job of sounding louder than what is actually emanating left and right physical speakers. This offers slightly more of cinematic perspective. Despite the fact that it cannot be compared to actual multichannel surround sound with sat speakers, the virtualization effect means that watching movies becomes more interesting and comfortable.

There also EQ presets for bass and treble and you can adjust the sound to personal preference. Using the default audio settings I considered the balance between the players and my own sound was fairly good. It is good to have the bass/treble boost options extra boom and crisp when felt necessary anyway. The volume is quite good for a standard size paperback including getting fairly loud without much distortion. In any case, I never had to turn it to the max even when in large rooms or halls.

Who It’s For?

The Vizio 2.1 soundbar and wireless subwoofer is a budget audio enhancement for TVs that lacks a good sound quality. With gentle push, it offers significant enhancements on inadequate integrated TV speakers. Like in every other speaker system, a dedicated center channel just clears dialogs and makes them more understandable. And having a separate subwoofer augments a lot of absolute good bass frequency for music, boots, and gaming.

Which, if you are looking for true multichannel surround that has audio coming from behind you, this budget 2.1 system of course is no comparison to you typical 5.1 or 7.1 home theater system. You may also need to spend extra if you need WiFi streaming rather than only Bluetooth functionality. However, if your primary requirement is more volume of the audio for your TV at a low cost, then the Vizio SV210M-0808 is phenomenal for its price.

Other Soundbars to Consider

The under $150 Vizio SV210M-0808 competes well with other budget soundbars from top brands:

– Samsung HW-T400 2.1 Channel Soundbar with Built-In Subwoofer: For under $150 there is no WiFi streaming performed and the quality of audio is also same as above.

– Polk Audio Signa S2 Ultra-Slim TV Sound Bar: It has a better brand image than Vizio but costs near 200 dollars. Still no WiFi streaming.

– Roku Streambar: Keeping with the brand, this is now $130 and has added 4K streaming. But sacrifices bass since there is no stand alone subwoofer.

But the Vizio is still fairly competitive and offers wireless streaming, though like most budget speakers, it offers only Ethernet not Wi-fi and you get the customary subwoofer that provides better bass.

Conclusion

For those that need a budget solution for high quality sound on their TV, the Vizio 2.1 Soundbar system (SV210M-0808) is a great choice. This affordable soundbar and wireless subwoofer package offer a dramatic upgrade to flat, lifeless television speakers. People can hear far and clear, bass in songs and sounds produced are louder and crisper, and watching movies are a more enhanced experience. Small, easy to set up, Bluetooth support, and an aimed down-firing bass woofer provide marked sound improvements for small amounts of money over its rivals. It’s not true surround or WiFi connectivity however at this price effective. If you want even a much clearer sound quality for your TV at a relatively lower price yes, take a look at the Vizio 2.1 channel soundbar and wireless subwoofer system.
