Wuchang:Fallen Feathers Looking Very Familiar Right Now

News

Wuchang:Fallen Feathers is a game developed by Chengdu Lingze Technology Ltd, based out of China and is being published by 505 games, 505 games previously published the Ghostunner titles and Control among other notable games in the past decade. There is no official release date as of yet other than it coming out in 2025, on all platforms bar the Nintendo Switch but Xbox has confirmed that it will be available on Game Pass on day 1.

Looking A Bit Like Wukong But..

From the trailers released, people were already labeling it to be looking similar to Wukong, but that isn’t an entirely negative point, the visuals may be somewhat similar, but the gameplay shown is entirely different if it is to be believed. The story takes place at the end of the Ming Dynasty, it is unclear whether that is the year 1632 or 1663

The trailer starts off with a monologue by what we can only assume to be a pivotal character to the story or the final boss, stating his thirst for vengeance and he will not stop until he gets back to the kingdom of the fallen Ming Dynasty, but there are hints of something much deeper happening other than someone’s ploy for revenge.

The trailers also showcase beautiful vistas similar to the scenery that Ghost of Tsushima was able to show with paths covered in maple leaves and ginkgo tree leaves. The trailer showcased mountainous areas with carved stone paths, shrines and dense forests with Torii Gates, symbolizing it as holy areas.

Its Giving Sekiro Meets Nioh Vibes

The combat showcased is a mix of various colorful kinds of magic, along with flame spears and swords. It seems our protagonist can wield lightning, fire and flower magic along with that, the trailer shows the various special moves she can do after parrying attacks or projectiles, although the trailer showcased her moves with a sword, there were some scenes showing her wielding a mechanical halberd that has a gun at the end of it, hinting that we may be wielding more than 1 weapon as we play.

Her feather attacks, which have a signature blood red color, only come out when she is parrying an attack, these can be literal feathers that pierce enemies, a throwing spear to counterattack far away enemies wielding crossbows or guns or she can swing the spear to counter after parrying a melee.

The trailer also showcased a multiple of vastly different bosses and enemies we’ll get to fight, from ice wielding humans, to giant centipede-like monsters and even enormous, vicious plants. What we do know about our protagonist is that she is a pirate suffering from amnesia and her feather powers are actually mutations which she has to gain control of for use in combat.

The Chinese Game Industry’s Potential Is Looking Bright

Although we can’t get much updates around what is happening in China’s games industry, it is clear they are more than willing to enter and showcase their skills in creating beautiful, diverse and frankly mechanically impressive games. Black Myth:Wukong might have been just a taste of it, showing the clear potential and what to expect from the Chinese Games Industry moving forward.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers might perform just as well as Wukong did, while the story for Black Myth has its roots in the novel, A Journey to the West, Wuchang is actually the literal center of the area the Ming Dynasty occupied. It is mostly an original story but alas there is no way to tell, unless the developers show us more content.

2025 will be the year we see the release of this potential masterpiece, we will also get the release of First Berserker Kazhan along with Monster Hunter Wilds, it is shaping up to be a proper eventful year in gaming after the disasters that came out this year like Skull And Bones and Concord but alas what is confirmed is that AC: Shadows is set to come out next year after the recent announcement of its delay and who knows when they plan to release so as to not get overshadowed by its greater peers.
