Review: Nordväl DC202-2CH Dashcam 4K – Safety & Ultra HD Recording

Cars

Nordväl DC202-2CH

Pros

  • 4K Ultra HD recording (30fps) for good clarity
  • Dual camera setup for front and rear coverage
  • WiFi (5GHz) for seamless connectivity
  • Built-in GPS for location tracking
  • Advanced parking modes with motion and impact detection
  • Good visibility in day conditions
  • H.265 video compression for efficient storage

Cons

  • Framerate of 30fps (hz) is not enough at high speeds. It lacks detail, which result in hard to read numberplates. 60fps would be better.
  • Rear camera is fine, but not GREAT. Lacks details at high speeds. In evenings it’s hard to detect details
  • With 4K you really have to buy a bigger SD-card to collect and store lot’s of data. It’s 200mb per 1 minute!

Introduction to the DC202-2CH

Imagine a partner who is a sharp observer, never gets tired and has the ability to record every event that happens during your journey. This is exactly what a dashcam can do. In this review, I will take a closer look at the Nordväl DC202-2CH! Slim, sleek and packed with features, this dashcam is good for recording everything that happens around you on the road or while you are parked.

The DC202-2CH is made for modern drivers who value safety and convenience. It seamlessly combines advanced technology with ease of use, making it an essential tool for everyday driving and long road trips. With its intuitive installation and reliable performance, this dashcam stands out in a competitive market.

Let’s get straight to the point. It is a very complete camera, with a lot of possibilities. The advantage of a front and rear camera is that in case of damage, the image tells everything – whether it is your fault or not. Or in case something happens on the road, it is also recorded. If someone falls off their bike, that is also visible. And that is exactly what you want to achieve with a camera. Registering events that affect you as a user, or registering things that happen around you. Don’t expect that a complete road trip through Europe can be written away on an SD card. Despite the fact that it is 4k, 30fps has been chosen, and that is a real sticking point at high speeds. Because a lot is moving and fast, data/details are missing. And that… that is a bit of a problem. 60fps would be fast enough to register more, at higher speeds (and where more/faster movement is involved). But whether that is necessary in all cases, that is the question.

That said, these functions make the DC202-2CH a good all-in-one dashcam that meets all the requirements of every driver. In this review I will tell you everything about this dashcam. The good, the bad and the ugly..

Nordväl sponsored me for this review, with the DC202-2CH dashcam. However, this review is written with my own opinion. And Nordväl has no input in my findings.

Front and Rear Camera Setup

The great thing about this dashcam set is that it works with a front and rear camera. This makes the recording angle larger than with the usual front-only dashcam. With the option to use the parking mode longer through the PMPC03 cable, you can record endlessly. This cable ensures that the dashcam is connected to the car battery. For example, if you park at Schiphol for 3 weeks, it is nice to know that the dashcam is not empty after day 2, because that happens very often. And then you have no use for the rest of the time. In this case, you are protected the entire time.

The dual-camera setup of the DC202-2CH offers comprehensive coverage that ensures your vehicle is protected from all angles:

  • Front Camera: With a resolution of 3840p, the dashcam records a fair amount of pixels. This is especially true for license plate recognition, signs and other relevant functions that can be relevant at any time. Mainly during the day, then it is quite clear and easy to see. In the evening, also partly due to the 30fps, it is a bit more difficult.
  • Rear Camera: Has a resolution of 2K which is 2560p, so you’ll be able to see everything behind your vehicle. For instance, in the event of an accident such as a rear-end collision or any other strange activity, the car’s rear camera is there to help at any one time.

Front 140˚ + rear 135˚ wide-angle lens
Both cameras have a wide-angle lens with wide viewing angles of 140° degrees on the front camera and 135° degrees on the rear camera. So you don’t have to miss any moments on the road.

To be really honest, I do love the design of the Nordväl dashcam. It looks sleek, the front and rear cam.

4K Ultra HD recording

Any video recording is useless if it is not clear and distinct. The Nordväl DC202-2CH offers an Ultra HD 4K 30fps to provide the viewer with the best clear and detailed images.

  • Day and night brightness: Ample light sensitivity and detail capture. The high-resolution sensor can handle light conditions.
  • Improved evidence: Therefore, clear images can be the key to success if something goes wrong. The ability to distinguish details such as license plate number and faces ensures that you have reliable traces.

There is even a possibility to use only the dashcam on the front, this expands the image horizontally and even extends the resolution to 5k!

That the sensor is not bad, that is quite easy to see from the images below. Brightness and light sensitivity are quite good. Especially with things at lower speeds, there is a lot of detail to be seen. When it is dark and also moving quickly/large difference in speeds, the light sensitivity is still good, but detail is already somewhat less.

Front cam in the garage. When stationary, all license plates are easy to read.

nordväl-dc202-2ch Review
In the case of the rear cam, there is still some detail missing. For example, the license plate of the red car is no longer legible, this is due to the 2k resolution.

The image below does show the difference in the evening on a highway. In this case, the car on the left was driving 5 km faster, in the video I could not make out the license plate. This is because the image with 30fps is not fast enough to register this properly.
A dashcam is therefore not a 100% guarantee. It is always useful in the event of a collision or something to name the license plate so that you can also register it, via the microphone on the dashcam.

nordväl-dc202-2ch Review

When the speeds are slower again, license plates are registered better, such as the car on the front right.

nordväl-dc202-2ch Review

The image below also shows that with speed differences, 30fps is not just sufficient to read license plates. nordväl-dc202-2ch Review

After I wanted to drive away from a gas station, a Golf drove past. I drove to the right and later to the left of the VW at two different times. At both times, the images are too fast for the 30fps, which means that it is simply not recorded properly.

A dashcam is, as mentioned before, not only to record images of license plates, but mainly to form an image of an accident or event. But it does help if EVEN more detail is visible. nordväl-dc202-2ch Review

The rear camera also gives a good image of what is happening, but is still not very clear. The moving images are also not much more telling than the screenshots.

Lots of connectivity options

The app allows you to set and adjust everything. The dashcam is equipped with 5GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2. With these connectivity options you can communicate with the dashcam via a smartphone or tablet:

  • Fast data transfer: The advantage of fast WiFi is that it is possible to quickly download files to a smartphone.
  • App integration: With the accompanying app, settings can be changed and videos can be shared.
  • Real-time monitoring: There is integration of Bluetooth to provide real-time live updates and warning services.

What is nice, however, is that the app does not have a very high learning curve. Because you can quickly and easily navigate through the app, the dashcam is quickly customized to your own needs. But for a plug-and-play idea, it is useful if more information is provided in the settings. This also helps people make an even better choice in their settings.

The app works fine, not super extensive, but that is not really necessary for a dashcam with only a few options and possibilities.

Impact Detection and Safety

The DC202-2CH is equipped with a G-sensor for safety and will warn you in the event of an event. This advanced feature detects:

  • Collision: Automatic video recording and storage is done when the device detects that a collision has occurred.
  • Hard braking: These events are recorded when sudden stops activate the G-sensor on the vehicle.
  • Sharp turns or evasive maneuvers: Sudden turns are also recorded, as well as acceleration, deceleration and other movements to provide a complete account of your driving profile.

A more advanced feature of the G-sensor is that when the device detects that it has been activated, the recording is automatically saved to a locked folder so that the file cannot be overwritten.

Parking Mode Features

The DC202-2CH has enhanced parking modes that protect your car regardless of the owner’s absence. These features include:

  • Motion Detection: It starts recording as soon as an activity occurs near the car and captures various events on the road through the movement of the car.
  • Impact Detection: The physical movement that is created causes the dash cam to record and save the incident.

The parking mode works quite well, if the car moves, it starts recording immediately. I closed the hood of the car to test how the parking camera would react, and it was immediately clear that the cam started recording immediately.

Time-lapse recording explained

The DC202-2CH has three special modes, the most notable of which is the Time-lapse recording mode. This feature helps to chop up hours and hours of recordings into pieces that are very easy to handle. Here’s how it helps:

  • Storage efficiency: The time-lapse mode consumes much less disk space, allowing for long periods of recording.
  • Quick playback: Spend less time on a minute compared to long recordings and the amount of time spent on them, and it is easier to quickly locate events.

This feature is very useful when, for example, taking a long car ride or when the car is parked for hours.

Voice control and guidance

The DC202-2CH also has voice control, allowing the dash cam to be operated by voice as well. For example:

  • Start or stop recording.
  • Take snapshots.
  • Short: Turn parking mode on or off.

H.265 HEVC compression

No kidding. And I already mentioned it. In normal mode, it writes 200mb per minute. Efficient storage is therefore really crucial for high-resolution recording. The advantage of H.265 HEVC compression is as follows:

  • Smaller file sizes: Compared to other previous video compression standards, such as H.241, H.262 and H.264, H.265 compresses videos significantly more, freeing up much-needed storage space.
  • Preserved quality: Something interesting is that despite this feature, the video quality is not affected at all and remains beautiful thanks to the details.

This guarantees the fact that even more images can be recorded on an SD card, which are just as clear. Therefore, make sure that you buy a large enough SD card. It would be a shame if an event is overwritten because the SD card is too small… it could happen to you..

Conclusion

These days I am on the road quite a bit. And the things that happen are sometimes ‘scary’. People who pass by at breakneck speed, road users who cut each other off (accidentally or deliberately), damage parked cars and then drive away calmly. It could all happen to you without any extra ‘safety’ on the road.

I advise almost everyone to just buy a dashcam and let it happen. Why? To protect yourself against injustice. There are already countless stories of people who are left with damage while the culprit drives on. Even now in the slippery months, it is not a bad idea to buy something important like a dashcam. The Nordväl DC202-2CH is not just a dashcam that records rides, but a tool that can guarantee safety by proving your innocence (if that is the case). During my review I was able to play with this dashcam a lot. It is a complete and good dashcam that simply records everything you should have/know. There is no 100% detail. Combined with the 30fps it is often difficult to record fast moving objects. And especially in the evening… Still it tells a story… and that is exactly what you want. It is enough for the insurance to see if you are a person who is at fault or not.

The Nordväl DC202-2CH gets 4 out of 5 stars. It is a good cam with a lot of options and possibilities!
